Burnley are reportedly seeking targets to replace Sander Berge, with their star midfielder on the cusp of a move back to the Premier League.

It emerged on Monday night that Fulham are closing in on a £25m deal to sign Berge from Burnley.

The 26-year-old was subject to interest from Manchester United this summer, although United are prioritising a move for Paris Saint-Germain defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

To sign Ugarte, United need PSG to lower their asking price. It would help if the Reds could start selling more players, too.

According to The Athletic, Burnley are interested in signing Hannibal Mejbri from United, as a potential replacement for Sander Berge.

The 21-year-old has one year left on his contract and he doesn’t have a pathway into Erik ten Hag’s midfield due to not meeting the required standards.

Hannibal joined United in 2019 from AS Monaco before he graduated from the academy. He has made 13 first-team appearances for the club on top of 27 caps for the Tunisia national team.

Sadly for Hannibal, his loan at Sevilla last term didn’t go to plan and that doesn’t bode to well for him with less clubs showing an interest as a result.

That said, Hannibal has previously played in the Championship at Birmingham City so he would be returning to a division he already has experience in. He scored one goal and provided five assists in 38 games during a loan spell.

Burnley may try to get a deal over the line before their next game against Sunderland on Saturday. That may depend on whether Fulham can complete a deal to sign Berge in time.
