The Busan Story Market unveiled 29 original Korean IP selections today, which includes 11 books, eight webtoons, six web novels, and four stories.
These projects were selected from a pool of 237 submissions by 110 companies. The event is part of the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM), taking place from October 5 to 8, during the Busan International Film Festival.
Organisers stated that this year’s selection process reflected a shift from previous years, where stories were more prevalent, to a “greater emphasis on books and web novels — formats that have already undergone validation.”
They also shared that despite a reduction in the submission limit per company from five to three, the total number of submissions increased by 10%, “underscoring the robust demand for adapting original IPs into films.”
Selected projects include horror-romance Phantom Dating Sim and crime drama Round (both from CJ ENM Studios and Toons Family Branch), horror-thriller Take Another Route to Escape the Woods (from A2Z Entertainment) and sci-fi drama A Thousand Blues from Contents Lab Blue.
Projects adapted from webtoons and web novels also include All the Summer, I Marry With My Brother-in-Law, I Refuse to Become the Disgraced Concubine, Infinite Chain, The Karma Note, Marriage Blues, The Official Hired Wife, Reading, Not Readable, The Reincarnated Boss, Sun Kissed Snow and The Worst Roommate.
