Manchester United players were over the moon to see Mason Mount return to club training on Tuesday – as was Declan Rice.
The midfielder has endured an injury-stricken career at Old Trafford since he swapped blue for red by ending his 18-year association with Chelsea last July.
As it stands, the United faithful are yet to see enough of their £60 million signing – the Red Devils’ most expensive addition of the summer window – to even judge his transfer or how he’s fared under Erik ten Hag.
Mount, 25, has made only eight Premier League appearances so far this term, four of which were as a starter. He played just two matches before being sidelined with a hamstring complaint in September 2023, which saw him ruled out of the subsequent four games, before sustaining a calf problem in November and being unavailable for selection since then.
It’s led to Ten Hag being without the England international at his disposal for 26 matches in all competitions.
His return is on the horizon, though, as the club confirmed yesterday that he was taking part in the squad’s sessions at Carrington, although he isn’t expected back in action fully until after the March international break.
Instagram reacts to Mount’s training return
Reacting to his long-awaited comeback on Instagram, Mount shared two snaps of himself looking thrilled to join his teammates on the turf, captioning his post: “Happy to be back on the grass with the team!”
Numerous Reds responded matching his enthusiasm, as well as Arsenal star – and one of Mount’s closest friends – Declan Rice, who commented: “Buzzing man”.
