Cross River State has fixed October 5 to 13 as the date for the implementation of the Integrated Measles Vaccination campaign.

This was disclosed in a notification signed by the Director-General of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Vivien Mesembe Otu, and made available to the media on Monday.

Dr Otu said, “The Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, in collaboration with the state Ministry of Health and partners, will commence the implementation of the Integrated Measles Vaccination Campaign from the 5th through 13th October 2024.”

Dr Otu further disclosed that measle is a life-threatening disease caused by the measles virus that can spread from one infected person to another.

He added, “During the campaign, other childhood vaccines will be given to children aged 0 to 23 Months, HPV for girls 9-14 years, and measles vaccines for children 9-59 months of age.”

Otu noted that trained health workers will be at all health facilities and other designated places, such as schools churches, mosques, markets, etc from 8 am to 2 pm.

The DG added, “Parents and caregivers are admonished to bring out their kids and wards for the exercise at designated vaccination posts and all government health facilities.

“Do not miss this opportunity to protect yourself and your family against vaccine-preventable diseases.”

In addition, he noted that all vaccines are free, safe, and effective, calling on all state residents to participate in the exercise.
