In a sign of the times, Creative Artists Agency has inked a deal with an artificial intelligence company to store clients’ digital assets.

CAA and Veritone announced their partnership on Tuesday, leading to the creation of the “CAAVault” — a synthetic media vault that will store all intellectual property related to all CAA talent’s name, image and likeness. This includes digital scans and voice recordings.

According to Veritone, talent will retain access to their digital assets via a “personal vault,” which will allow them to share their assets as they see fit.

This appears to be the first deal of its kind between a talent agency and an AI company. It comes on the heels of last year’s lengthy dual strikes, which helped achieve sweeping AI protections in the latest studio contracts for the WGA, DGA and SAG-AFTRA.

The below-the-line workers are also currently attempting to secure their own protections against AI, as their bargaining with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is ongoing.

“Ethics-led and talent-friendly applications of emerging technologies, like AI, are a top priority for CAA, driving us to innovate new ways to support and protect artists,” Alexandra Shannon, Head of Strategic Development, CAA said in a statement. “The launch of the CAAvault is one such innovation. By partnering with a trusted organization like Veritone, we can maintain the security of the artist’s assets, while working to ensure that AI is responsibly integrated into opportunities across the entertainment landscape.”

Added Sean King, General Manager of Veritone Media and Entertainment: “Veritone has championed ethical AI and data security for nearly a decade, and this partnership with CAA further exemplifies our ongoing commitment to leveraging technology for the greater good. Together with CAA, we are resolute in our dedication to safeguarding the interests of talent while raising the bar for data security and ethical AI in the entertainment industry.”
