Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo
President Bola Tinubu has made Nigerians the juries who will determine if the performance of the Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, is worth retaining his job.
This was made known through the Federal Government Delivery Tracker website, which allows Nigerians to monitor ministers’ performance indicators and projects and rate their performances.
When the app was launched in April, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination and Head of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit, Hadiza Bala-Usman, stated that the government intended to make it easy for Nigerians to hold the administration accountable.
Bala-Usman gave the website address as app.cdcu.gov.ng.
She said, “I am pleased to inform you that this promise has been delivered as the upgraded Citizens’ Delivery Tracker App, which will enable all citizens to view the deliverables and key performance indicators for all ministries and give their own assessment of the performance of each of the indicators, goes live today.
“The Citizens’ Delivery Tracker is an application which affords citizens the opportunity to view the priority programmes and projects of the Federal Government on their devices.”
Barely, five days ago, the Presidency confirmed the plan for the President to soon rejig his cabinet.
However, it was gathered that the exercise would be based on the empirical evidence from performance reports the President had received in the past months.
According to the performance evaluation website, the minister of aviation will be accessed on six grounds, checking if the minister did the following satisfactorily; “Implementation of the personnel performance management system of the Federal Government to promote accountability in public service delivery.
“Initiate and implement quarterly citizens and stakeholder engagement sessions to communicate government activities and serve as a feedback mechanism – Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
“Deploy and operationalise Enterprise Content Management System -Ministry of Aviation & Aerospace Development.
“Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations to achieve continuous upward movement of Nigeria’s rating by ICAO.
“Accelerate the completion of the following aviation infrastructure to promote sectoral growth.
“Support the growth and sustenance of local airline businesses to attain the highest international standards in the aviation industry and,
“Ensure access to Terminal buildings by persons with disabilities.”
Considering the grounds, when contacted on the possibility of Keyamo retaining his office, Special Adviser to the minister, Tunde Moshood, said the President owned the power of hire and fire but assured that the minister was on the right track.
His words, “ There is no basis for the optimism, the hire and firepower is to the discretion of Mr President. All we know is that the Minister has been on the right track so far.”
