Current coach of the French women’s football team, Hervé Renard is being courted by the Ivory Coast.
The information had the effect of a small bomb this Thursday: Côte d’Ivoire would be banking on Hervé Renard to tackle the rest of the African Cup of Nations 2023. The host country of this edition went through the very small door to punch its ticket for the round of 16, with only three points on the clock – a first in the history of this formula.
This very lively group stage was not without consequences since Jean-Louis Gasset was dismissed in the middle of the competition. And for the knockout phase, it’s a big piece that will present itself on the road to the Elephants. Ivory Coast will indeed face Senegal in a highly anticipated clash between two big names in African football.
Hervé Renard back on the Ivory Coast bench?
According to information from L’Équipe, the Ivorian Federation would like to bring back Hervé Renard, who had already been on the Elephants bench for a short experience between 2014 and 2015. This mission could be even briefer, since according to the French daily, the Federation would offer a simple freelance for the rest of this African Cup of Nations. Problem: Hervé Renard is fully invested in his challenge as coach of the French women’s team, which he must lead in the Nations League and the Olympic Games.
In this context, is this operation really possible? The newspaper L’Équipe does not rule it out since Ivory Coast would not wish to terminate Renard’s contract with the FFF, but simply finalize the deal in the form of a loan. A completely crazy file which could materialize in the coming hours.
