The Christian Association of Nigeria has lauded the legacies of former military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, as he marked his 90th birthday on Saturday.
CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, in a statement, praised Gowon’s unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s unity and development.
Okoh described Gowon’s leadership as crucial in maintaining the nation’s cohesion during one of its most turbulent periods.
He also commended Gowon’s post-military efforts, particularly through the ‘Nigeria Prays’ initiative which the CAN President noted brought together Nigerians from different regions in a shared effort to seek divine intervention for the country’s challenges.
“On this momentous occasion, we celebrate not just your achievements, but also the profound impact you have had on the heart and soul of Nigeria. May God bless you with continued health and happiness, and may your legacy inspire future leaders to prioritize peace, unity, and the common good”, Okon said.
Similarly, the Governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Radda described Gowon as “a distinguished elder statesman whose commitment to Nigeria’s unity, particularly during the challenging period of the civil war, continues to inspire generations of Nigerians.”
Radda’s disclosed this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula, on Saturday in Katsina.
He said, “General Gowon’s leadership during Nigeria’s most testing times, and his subsequent dedication to peace through his ‘Nigeria Prays’ initiative, exemplifies the spirit of true patriotism”.
The governor commended Gowon’s post-war reconciliation policy of ‘No Victor, No Vanquished,’ which, noting that this was instrumental in healing the nation’s wounds and fostering the reintegration that followed the civil war.
