The Toronto Police Service in Canada has launched an investigation following the circulation of a TikTok video containing threats directed at the Edo and Yoruba tribes in Canada.

The video, which emerged on the social media platform X.com on Tuesday, showed a Canada-based Nigerian, Amaka Sunnberger, speaking in Pidgin English during a TikTok meeting, where she called for the poisoning of Yoruba and Benin individuals.

“Record me very well. It is time to start poisoning the Yoruba and the Benin,” Sunnberger declared.

“Put poison for all una food for work. Put poison for una water, make una dey kpai one by one,” she added.

The Federal Government earlier today identified Sunnberger as the individual behind the viral video.

The video, which has sparked concern within the community, is now the focus of a police probe as authorities were alerted to the video by concerned community members who reported the incident.

In response, the Toronto Police Service on Wednesday assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and have prioritised the safety of the affected communities.

“We are aware of the recent TikTok video in which threats were made against the Edo and Yoruba tribes in Canada.

“This incident has been reported to the Toronto Police Service and is currently under investigation.

“Your safety is our priority, and we are committed to addressing this matter promptly,” a representative of the Toronto Police Service, Bassey Osagie, stated in a community update made available to journalists by the Spokesperson for Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.

The police have also urged anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.

Individuals can contact the Toronto Police Service directly or reach out to Osagie via Instagram.
