Carmella was devastated when Enzo Amore and Big Cass were called up to the main roster without her.
The Princess of Staten Island made her debut on NXT as a hairdresser who was recruited by the pair to become a wrestler. Carmella’s identity was tied to the tag team, and they were a package deal for a long time in NXT.
However, when Enzo and Cass debuted on the main roster after WrestleMania 32, they did so without Carmella. She remained in NXT, becoming a singles star for the first time in her career.
Carmella recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet about how she felt. She revealed she was devastated after being so excited about joining them on the main roster.
“Triple H had talked to Enzo and Cass separately and told them they were debuting the next night on Raw.” Carmella said. “There were talks about it because we had done tours together, we had done loops, and I was with them. So, I thought, ‘Okay. When they go up, of course, I’m going up with them’.”
“When I found out that Triple H had talked to them, someone came and pulled me off the bus. We were about to leave—it was TakeOver, I think. I don’t even remember what we were doing, but I was pulled off the bus as we were about to head back to the hotel. They said, ‘Triple H wants to talk to you.’ I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re debuting tomorrow.’ I was so excited!”
Triple H Told Carmella She Wasn’t Joining Enzo And Big Cass On The Main Roster
Carmella continued. She revealed that Triple H told her she was “strong”, and had the chance to prove herself on her own.
“He pulled me aside and said, ‘Enzo and Cass are debuting tomorrow,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah?’. He then said, ‘You’re not going to debut with them.’. My world just came crashing down. I was devastated in the moment, but now I look back, and he had told me, ‘This is a good opportunity for you to prove who you are on your own. You’re strong. You’re going to be a strong character. You don’t need to be with them. You’re going to be strong on your own.'”
Carmella added, “At the time, of course, it was devastating to hear, but it all worked out the way it was supposed to. Here I am, 11 years later, still here and killing it. Well, not right now, but soon.”
