Things are going from bad to worse from West Ham United’s point of view.
Julen Lopetegui’s side have barely got going in the Premier League, and if they thought that the Carabao Cup might have offered them a genuine chance of some silverware this season, that notion was quickly dispelled after a resounding 5-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
Though it’s true that it’s never been the happiest of hunting grounds for the Hammers, supporters that had travelled up all the way from London would surely have expected more from their team.

Their cause wasn’t helped by a red card in the second half from Edson Alvarez, after a wild tackle on Mo Salah.
Commentating for Sky Sports, former Liverpool ace, Jamie Carragher, appeared to blame the Mexican for ruining his team’s chances of getting back in the game.
“What a stupid decision when you’re on a yellow card,” he said during the live commentary.
“For a 10 or 15-minute period, it looked like West Ham were going to get back into the game.”
