Manchester United star Casemiro has shared that he consistently advises Kobbie Mainoo to stay focused and work diligently, recognising the challenges inherent in the career of an elite-level footballer.
Mainoo, aged 18, has emerged as one of the bright spots in an otherwise mixed season for his childhood club.
Having joined the Red Devils at the age of nine, Mainoo has made significant strides since his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup early in 2023. He has since made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring twice.
One of the standout moments of Mainoo’s young career occurred recently during United’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Wolves. In the dying moments of the match, Mainoo scored a remarkable solo goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time, securing all three points for his team in dramatic fashion.
‘First off, I’d like to congratulate Kobbie. He’s only 18 and he’s already a starter at a club like Manchester United,’ Casemiro told United’s official website.
‘It’s not easy, there’s a lot of pressure. But I think United will have a top player for the next years, easily.
‘He’s a top player. He’s exceptional. He’s a humble, hard-working player.
‘He knows how to listen. He’s a great player.’
Casemiro added: ‘Since I play alongside him, I know Manchester United will have one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for the next years, easily.
‘I think we have to recognise his value. He’s a great kid. I’m very happy that he’s on our side.
‘As long as he keeps his head on straight, just as he’s doing now, I think we’ll have a great player for many, many years here at United.’
Casemiro cautioned Mainoo about the challenging journey that lies ahead in his football career. However, the Brazilian midfielder expressed confidence in Mainoo’s maturity and attitude, believing that the teenager possesses the necessary qualities to maximize his undeniable potential.
The teenager, widely anticipated to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate’s upcoming England squad, has been a consistent starter in every match throughout Manchester United’s seven-game unbeaten streak. It is expected that he will maintain his position in the lineup when Erik ten Hag’s team hosts Fulham at Old Trafford this weekend.
