Unbelievable but true. Silent with OM last season, Joaquin Correa shone with Inter Milan on Saturday in Serie A.
The 2023-2024 season for Olympique de Marseille was a total failure. And in the midst of this failure, there were a multitude of individual flops, particularly in recruitment. Among them, the case of Joaquin Correa was particularly telling.
World champion with Argentina in 2022, very solid player in La Liga and Serie A for several years, the Argentinian seemed to be able to be a good pick for OM, who is also on loan with an option to buy. In the end, we never really saw what the former Lazio and Sevilla player was capable of, frequently nailed to the bench and reduced to the bare minimum in terms of minutes of play (19 appearances in all competitions, 0 aim). When he had his chance, Correa did not take it and it was logical that he returned to Inter Milan, where he seemed to be only in transit before leaving for a less posh club.
One goal and two assists
This Saturday, for the 13th day of Serie A, Joaquin Correa started with the Nerazzurri on the pitch at Hellas Verona. And he smashed the screen! With the opening goal on a very nice dive ball (17th) and two assists (for Marcus Thuram, then Yann Bisseck), the 30-year-old striker, who has appeared only three times since the start of the season and never in the starting eleven, gave Simone Inzaghi all his confidence. Inter won by a large margin (0-5) and virtually regained the lead in the standings ahead of Naples.
In this match, Marcus Thuram, recently elected man of the year by the magazine GQ Italia, celebrated his victory with a double for his 8th and 9th goals, and gets closer to the Neapolitan Retegui, top scorer in Serie A at the moment. The Dutchman De Vrij is the other scorer of the day for the Lombard club, who rested a little on his achievements in the second half.
