EXCLUSIVE: Canada‘s CBC is stocking its streaming service with dramas from Scandinavia and the UK.
CBC Gem will launch British comedy-drama Cheaters, Scandi co-pro comedy All and Eva and Danish drama Families Like Ours in coming weeks. All and Eva will lead off on Friday, November 1, followed by Cheaters amon November 8 and Families Like Ours on November 22.
All and Eva, from Warner Bros. International Television Sweden for Viaplay, is a six-part series in which a woman’s journey to discover her sperm donor and their unexpected relationship, despite his ignorance of his impending fatherhood. Viaplay Content Distribution shops it internationally.
It is created, written and directed by Johanna Runevard (Vi Forever, Kaos) and stars Tuva Novotny (Annihilation, Eat Pray Love), Joachim Fjelstrup (The Dreamer – Becoming Karen Blixen, Tove’s Room), Sanna Sundqvist (Call Mom!, Thank You, I’m Sorry) and Bengt Braskered (Familjen, Sound of Noise).
Cheaters, the BBC drama from Baby Reindeer maker Clerkenwell Films, is premised on an unlikely one-night stand between two strangers in committed relationships. Earlier this year, we revealed the show, which BBC Studios sells, was getting a second season. It is written by Oliver Lyttelton (Wedding Season) and stars Joshua McGuire (Lovesick, About Time), Susan Wokoma (Enola Holmes, Crazyhead), Callie Cooke (Britannia, The Stranger) and Jack Fox (Riviera, Sanditon).
Families Like These is a seven-part series from Zentropa Entertainments for TV2 in Denmark, StudioCanal and Canal+. It is is from Oscar-winning director Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round, The Celebration) and envisions Denmark in the not-too-distant future, as a family copes with mandatory evacuation due to rising water levels.
It stars Nikolaj Lie Kaas (Riders of Justice, Angels & Demons), Paprika Steen (Applause, Okay) and Esben Smed (Bedrag, A Fortunate Man), and premiered this fall at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals and BFI London Film Festival. StudioCanal has distribution rights.

CBC Gem offers more than 6,500 hours of live and on-demand Canadian programming and acquired shows from around the world. Its latest deals come ahead of MIPCOM Cannes next week, where many distributors will be looking to get similar deals over the line.
