The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has commenced plans to address issues affecting oil production in Nigeria.

According to him, oil production is critical to the country’s development.

A statement on Tuesday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, said the CDS disclosed this during a meeting with industry stakeholders in Rivers State.

Gusau said the meeting aimed to address challenges hindering optimised oil production in Nigeria.

He said, “Oil production is critical for socio-economic development in the country. Recently, significant strides have been made toward increasing our oil production, as evident in the current output of over 1.8 million barrels per day. These achievements are a testament to the unwavering commitment of all stakeholders.”

Gusau stated that the CDS sought the collaboration of stakeholders to meet the targeted production of 2.2 million barrels per day.

He added, “He also called for more collective efforts to achieve the overall goal of meeting Mr. President’s directive of a production output exceeding 2.2 million barrels per day.

“Consequently, the CDS implored stakeholders to be honest and objective in outlining challenges and to ensure that their strategies are inclusive, comprehensive, and realistic.

“The Defence Headquarters deemed it necessary to convene the forum, recognizing the complex dynamics involved and the importance of effective stakeholder engagement in sustaining oil and gas operations in the country.”
