Oscar Mingueza has been one of the rising stars in La Liga this season, establishing himself as a crucial outlet for the Celta Vigo defence.

Formerly of the famed La Masia youth academy, Mingueza has flourished in the right-back position, racking up two goals and five assists.

Minguez’s performances have even led to a call-up from the Spanish national team, with the defender recently featuring against Switzerland this week.

Thanks to Mingueza’s breakthrough, Barcelona have even considered the possibility of bringing him back to Catalonia. The club still own 50% of the player’s rights, which will significantly lower the cost of the operation.

However, it appears Celta Vigo have had enough and are looking to renew the defender’s contract, in a desperate attempt to keep him out of Barcelona’s clutches.

As per Mundo Deportivo, Celta Vigo are keen on buying out the full transfer rights to Mingueza’s contract. They have informed their intention to Barcelona, but talks are yet to take place.

Barça, for their part, continue to view Mingueza as an excellent low-cost option in the market, as they look to shore up their ranks in the right-back position.

The Catalan outfit can sign the player for just €10 million, which is half the value of the €20 million release clause embedded in his Celta Vigo contract.

For now, though, the situation has reached an impasse, especially with Barcelona cooling their interest in Mingueza due to Jules Kounde’s excellent performances at right-back.
