Chad Gable still wants singles gold in WWE.

Since joining WWE in 2013, Chad Gable has collected four reigns as a tag team champion. A singles title run, however, has yet to materialize for him. Gable came close several times during his feud with Gunther. He also had multiple shots at Sami Zayn.

During a recent interview on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Gable opened up on his journey toward claiming singles gold. He admitted that he was disappointed that he didn’t win a title during his feud with Sami Zayn.

“I feel like I also am disappointed in the fact that I didn’t grab one during that whole run [against Sami Zayn],” Gable said. “Because I also don’t want to give the fans the impression that like, well he’s great, but he’s also just the guy that can’t win the big one, where I know I am and I know I can. But what this is doing is I think for me building that first one to mean almost as much as maybe it’s ever meant for anybody.”

Close But No Cigar

Gable went on to express that he was thankful for the way that his feud with Gunther elevated him. He also noted that he and Zayn accomplished a lot. However, he pointed to a title win as the last piece of the puzzle that was missing.

“I’ve come so close so many times,” Gable continued.” The Gunther stuff, what it did for my career, what Gunther did for my career can’t be overstated. I have him to thank for so much the way he elevated me. Then moving on to the stuff with Sami, from a storytelling perspective alongside the in-ring perspective, we got so much accomplished in such a short amount of time. I feel like for both of us that it left just the right amount on the table for me as a singles guy to be like he did so much there, he got so much done, but he didn’t win the championship. So we’ve got one piece of the puzzle left to fill in.”

Despite his unsuccessful efforts in challenging for the Intercontinental Championship, Gable asserts that his motivation to capture it continues to burn strong. According to Gable, he’s “almost happy” that he lost to Sami Zayn. He noted that they were able to tell an effective story without the title changing hands.

Gable also said that losing to Zayn leaves him an opportunity open to fill in that proverbial puzzle piece, or elusive singles title when he truly “needs” it down the road.

Meanwhile, Gable has aligned with the Creed Brothers to form American Made. They have been feuding with the Wyatt Sicks.
