The drawing of the Champions League dams made its verdict. PSG will face Brest, while Monaco will find Benfica Lisbon.
The suspense ended this Friday noon with the draw for the dams of the Champions League. Paris Saint-Germain will once again cross the road to Stade Brestois in a 100% French poster, while AS Monaco will face Benfica Lisbon, a team he has already met during the regular phase. An intense program awaits French clubs in February.
Brest-PSG, a French shock in the Champions League
This draw guarantees an entirely tricolor duel between PSG and Brest and therefore a second French team in the round of 16. An unprecedented poster on the continental scene necessarily and which promises an explosive month of February between the two teams. Indeed, Paris and Brest are already competing this Saturday in Ligue 1, before being three times in a month with this double European confrontation.
The Parisians, who won 3-1 against the Brestois during their only confrontation this season, logically leave favorites. But Brest, which was heroic regular phase of C1, does not intend to do figuration and will try to create the feat against the reigning French champion.
Monaco-Benfica, an air of revenge
AS Monaco will have to compete in Benfica Lisbon, an opponent he knows well. The two teams have already faced themselves in regular phase, and it was the Portuguese who had won over the 3-2 score in Louis-II. A result which shows that the Monegasques will have a major challenge to be met in front of a club accustomed to European jousts.
The Principality club, currently in search of regularity in Ligue 1, will have to find the solutions to take revenge and win a place in the round of 16.
A spectacular draw with a Manchester City – Real Madrid on the program
In addition to these duels involving French clubs, this drawing of the dams reserved an XXL poster with a Manchester City – Real Madrid. The two clubs meet for the fourth consecutive year in the Champions League, a European rivalry which has already marked the recent history of the competition.
The other meetings are not lacking in interest either, notably with a Bayern Munich – Celtic Glasgow or a Feyenoord – AC Milan which promises to be disputed.
The first legs will take place on February 11 and 12, while the return meetings will take place on February 18 and 19. For their part, the eight teams already qualified for the knockout stages, including the LOSC of Bruno Genesio, will observe these dams carefully before knowing their future opponents.
French clubs are now fixed, and the battle promises to be tough to get a place among the 16 best teams in Europe.
