The new Champions League has arrived and tonight, the 36 qualified teams will finally know what the schedule will be for the championship phase which will begin on September 17 and end on January 29, 2025. The excitement is palpable since this new format, which is already causing a lot of controversy, involves a special draw where artificial intelligence will have a major place.

A lower victory bonus…

While we wait to find out which teams will challenge our four French representatives (PSG, Monaco, Brest, Lille), it is worth reminding you of the financial details of this juicy new C1. UEFA has announced that a prize pool of 2.437 billion euros will be shared between the clubs qualified for the league phase of this new-look C1. An amount divided into three categories.

27.5% will be allocated to equal shares (€670 million participation bonus), 37.5% will be allocated to fixed amounts linked to performance (€914 million) and 35% will be allocated to the new “value” pillar (€853 million). In concrete terms, each qualified team receives a participation bonus of €18.62 million (compared to €15.64 million last season). And as every year, the amount of shares received by each team changes according to the results.

…but a lot more money to be made

A win during this phase of the championship brings in €2.1 million, while €700,000 will be paid for a draw (€0 for a defeat). This is a little less than before (€2.8 million for a win, €930,000 for a draw), but the clubs have two additional matches. Above all, the new formula will allow them to make up for this shortfall. Thus, the teams ranked from first to eighth place at the end of the first phase will each receive a bonus of €2 million. €1 million will be awarded to each club ranked from ninth to sixteenth.

Finally, the teams that manage to qualify for the knockout phase will receive: €1 million for the play-off match before the round of 16, €11 million for qualifying for the last 16 (compared to €9.6 million last year), €12.5 million for the quarter-finals (€10.6 million), €15 million for the semi-finals (€12.5 million) and €18.5 million for the final (€15.5 million). The winner will receive a bonus of €10.5 million, namely €6.5 million for winning the C1 (€4.5 million last year) and €4 million for securing their ticket to the European Super Cup (+ €1 million if they win it). In short, a club that has achieved completion by winning all its matches during the league phase can receive up to €104.92 million, without counting the additional income linked to the “value” pillar mentioned above, where €853 million is to be shared.
