Wednesday evening of the Champions League. Lille and Monaco both won, against Bologna and Benfica respectively.
While PSG had fallen the day before against Bayern, Lille and Monaco experienced mixed fortunes this Wednesday. While Lille won without much difficulty in Bologna (2-1), ASM had to lose against Benfica (2-3).
Monaco collapsed at ten
ASM conceded its first setback in C1. Adi Hutter’s team had to give up against the Portuguese due to a difficult end to the match, with two goals conceded in the last ten minutes (Cabral 84th, Amdouni 88th). The final result would certainly have been different for the princely team without the expulsion of Wilfried Singo at game time.
With a man less, Monaco remained conquerors and their ambitious side was rewarded by a second goal, scored by Songoutou Magassa (67e). Unfortunately, the match lasted a little too long for the locals. Previously, the Lisbon side had revived by equalizing through Pavlidis. The Greek responded to Eliesse Ben Seghir’s opener (13e). The latter had especially benefited from the colossal work of Aleksandr Golovin.
Mukau, the hero of LOSC
On the Bologna pitch, LOSC had a much better evening. The Dogues broke the deadlock before the break thanks to the Congolese Ngal Mukau (44e). Then, the Italians revived with the equalizer of Lusumi (64e). But their joy was short, since from the 66e Mukau appeared again to plant a double. The midfielder stole the spotlight from Jonathan David for once.
With this third victory, LOSC is in an honorable 12e place in the ranking. The Dogues notably return to the height of Stade Brestois and Monaco. The northern team can be proud of its record in this event and its chances of extending its European journey. Ultimately, only PSG is completely missing the point in this competition. Who would have believed it at the start of the season?
