With just a few weeks remaining before the start of the new season, Barcelona are dealing with multiple injury problems.

Midfield trifecta of Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Gavi are currently nursing from their respective knocks, whereas Ronald Araujo must go through surgery and won’t be available until the end of the year.

Barcelona were also dealt with Ansu Fati’s injury in training earlier this month, which effectively ruled the attacker out of the US trip.

Change of plans at Barcelona

Earlier in the summer, Barcelona had identified the likes of de Jong, Fati and Araujo as potential candidates for a sale.

However, with all of them nursing injuries right now, Barcelona’s exit plans have been strangled, forcing the club to alter their plans, as per Catalunya Radio.

The report adds that Barcelona have now identified Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres as two prime candidates for sale.

The club believe player sales could be integral in their bid to re-balance their books and fund moves for top targets such as Nico Williams and Dani Olmo.

Barcelona likely to face hurdles

However, Barcelona’s plan to sell Ferran and Gundogan this summer could come with its own set of problems.

Earlier in the month, it was reported that neither of the two players have shown any desire to leave Barcelona this summer.

Ferran, in particular, has refused to leave Barcelona time and time again over the past 12 months, despite being constantly linked with a move away from Catalonia.

One would expect Gundogan to appear more understanding of the situation. But the midfielder may only consider an exit if Hansi Flick approves the move. For now, though, the German appears to enjoy the approval of his fellow countryman.
