Chappell Roan opened up about her experience with fame in a revealing interview.

The 26-year-old “Good Luck, Babe” pop star was undeniably one of the biggest acts of 2024, and she is poised to drop more music in the new year.

However, amid her incredible successes, she’s made multiple headlines for cancelling performances, calling out invasive fans and defending herself from disrespect.

According to Chappell, her star could shine even brighter if she was alright with “wearing a muzzle.”

She explained why she would not do that and why she was alright saying “no” and turning down huge opportunities.

“I think, actually, I’d be more successful if I was OK wearing a muzzle,” Chappell told BBC. “If I were to override more of my basic instincts, where my heart is going, ‘Stop, stop, stop, you’re not OK’, I would be bigger. I would be way bigger… And I would still be on tour right now.”

Chappell explained that her grandfather helped inspire her to stand up for herself and to turn down opportunities.

“There’s something he said that I think about in every move I make with my career. There are always options,” the hitmaker explained. “So when someone says, ‘Do this concert because you’ll never get offered that much money ever again’, it’s like, who cares?”

She added, “If I don’t feel like doing this right now, there are always options. There is not a scarcity of opportunity. I think about that all the time.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Chappell admitted that she has found fame “addictive.”

“A lot of people think fame is the pinnacle of success, because what more could you possibly want than adoration,” she asked, adding, “Like, I understand why I’m so scared to lose this feeling.”

However, she said that maintaining this level of fame is “out of my control” and that she’d rather focus on something different.

“If I can look back and say, ‘I did not crumble under the weight of expectation, and I did not stand for being abused or blackmailed’, [then] at least I stayed true to my heart,” she said.

Chappell also addressed that time that she called out a photographer on the red carpet.

“I’ve been responding that way to disrespect my whole life – but now there are cameras on me, and I also happen to be a pop star, and those things don’t match. It’s like oil and water,” she said.
