Arthur will drive the second Ferrari car, in place of Carlos Sainz, as FIA regulations state “all F1 drivers must sit out one FP1 each season for a rookie who has no more than two Grand Prix starts.” Reserve driver Ollie Bearman has already participated in FP1 in place of Charles earlier in the season, but he can’t step in for Carlos as he’s raced in F1 three times this season, subbing for both Carlos and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen. Arthur has been part of the Ferrari family for a few years now. He joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2020 and left the academy at the end of 2023, followed by being announced as a development driver for Ferrari in 2024. Previously, the younger Leclerc has competed in Formula E, Formula 3 and Formula 2, drove in the European Le Mans Series – LMP2 over the summer and won the Italian GT Endurance Championship – GT3 with his team in October. If you missed it, an incoming 2025 rookie driver will make his Formula 1 race debut at Abu Dhabi this weekend!
