Chelsea are reportedly close to signing teenage forward Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa in a deal worth around £19million.
Despite supposed issues with complying with Profit and Sustainability Rules, Chelsea are continuing to splash the cash on promising young players.
The likes of Deivid Washington, Angelo, Diego Moreira and Cesare Casadei have been signed, with more, like Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian, on their way to Stamford Bridge in the future.
Carney Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for £20m in the summer of 2022 and the Blues have now returned to Villa Park with their eye on another teenager attacker.
According to The Athletic, Enzo Maresca’s side are on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign Kellyman, with just the finer details needing to be sorted between the two clubs and the player.
Personal terms also need to be agreed with the 18-year-old before he undergoes his medical.
Capable of playing across the front-line but mainly as a centre-forward, Kellyman has made just six senior appearances for Villa since joining their academy in 2022 from Derby County.
They all came last season, but five of them were off the bench cameos totalling just 63 minutes of action in the Premier League, Europa Conference League and League Cup.
He did play the full 90 minutes of the second-leg of their Conference League qualifier against Hibernian last August, assisting Leon Bailey for the second goal of a 3-0 win.
He did score eight goals in 14 appearances for Villa’s U21 side and only signed a long-term contract with Unai Emery’s side last October.
This transfer comes just days after Villa agreed a deal to sign Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, with the Villans paying just over £35m for the Dutch defender.
It is better news for Maresca’s side who have now missed out on top target Michael Olise, with the Crystal Palace talisman set to move to Bayern Munich.
