Mauricio Pochettino faced mounting pressure after Chelsea's crushing defeat to Wolves, but talkSPORT's Ally McCoist believes he should be given more time.

The Blues boss acknowledged his position is not 'safe', as his side were humiliated at home, having now lost back-to-back games, each time conceding four goals.

The defeat saw the Londoners fall to 11th in the table, with the atmosphere among fans turning sour both inside and outside of the Stamford Bridge.

The players were booed after conceding their fourth goal, amid chants of 'we're f***ing s**t' from the home support, while chaos ensued on social media.

Centre-back Thiago Silva's wife Belle wrote on X: "It’s time to change. If you wait any longer it will be too late," appearing to call for Pochettino to be sacked.

The manager himself admitted to understanding the supporters' anger, issuing them an apology after the game.

Speaking to talkSPORT post-match, he said: "Of course I understand the feeling. We are Chelsea and we need to accept that they [the fans] want to win, they want the best."

Much of the frustration with the Argentine stems from a perceived lack of improvement at the club since the start of his tenure.

Chelsea have taken 31 points from 23 league games this campaign- the exact same tally as this stage last season, despite a record-breaking summer transfer window where owner Todd Boehly sanctioned £434.5m worth of additions.

Despite facing intense scrutiny in recent days, Ally McCoist maintains that the former Spurs manager should not be dismissed just yet.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast, McCoist argued: “Of course they can sack him, but what’s the point?"

He continued: “Should Pochettino be doing better? You’d better believe he should be doing better, " before adding that Chelsea are 'absolutely underachieving'.

McCoist also pointed to the ex PSG boss' lack of control over his current squad as a reason for his side's poor form, with many of the previous season's key players being moved on.

He remarked: "Normally a manager comes in, you want to bring your own players in, he had to trim it because of the players that they’ve had."

The talkSPORT host labelled the west London outfit's summer exodus an example of Chelsea's 'deeper,' problems, which he feels Pochettino deserves more time to address.
