Chelsea’s board defied Mauricio Pochettino’s wishes in the January transfer window by failing to sign two players.
The Blues failed to make a signing in January, as they counted the cost of spending £1.4bn over the last two years.
Rather than focus on new recruits, Chelsea spent the majority of the window trying to offload players as Armando Broja, Ian Maatsen, David Datro Fofan and Andrey Santos left the club on loan.
While Pochettino accepted the club needed to move players on, the Argentine is not happy with the formation of his squad.
Chelsea spent £400m on players last summer, but that money was spent on potential as a flurry of youngsters joined the club.
With injuries taking their toll on the squad, the Daily Mail say Pochettino wanted a left-back and striker to join the club in January.
But Chelsea’s board failed to fulfill Pochettino’s demands, as the club are wary of Profit and Sustainability Rules.
While Pochettino is under considerable pressure following a poor run of results, the club is currently scrutinising those in recruitment positions.
Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart and Joe Shields all hold senior recruitment positions, and Pochettino feels the squad has been left without valuable experience.
Thiago Silva was the only outfield player over the age of 30 in Sunday’s squad that lost 4-2 to Wolves.
