Chelsea have announced the signing of Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders in a £17m deal.

The 18-year-old has signed an eight-year deal at Stamford Bridge and will remain with Genk for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

The Belgium U19 international only made his senior debut for Belgian club Genk last month, making him the third youngest goalkeeper to ever debut in the league.

However, Chelsea have been tracking his progress over the last 18 months.

Penders becomes Chelsea’s latest signing of a busy summer, which has already seen the club sign Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.

The teenager’s arrival pushes Chelsea’s spending this summer past the £260m mark.

The club hope to offload Trevor Chalobah, Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell before the transfer window closes on August 30th at 11pm BST.

Enzo Maresca’s side got their Premier League campaign up and running with a 6-2 win away at Wolves on Sunday.

The Blues host Crystal Palace next Sunday in their next league outing.
