Chelsea could be considering a move for Victor Boniface this summer, as reports indicate that the Premier League’s big spenders are enticing the Bayer Leverkusen forward.
Chelsea have made the 23-year-old a top target in their attempt to strengthen their attacking options, according to SportBILD (via Sport Witness).
The Blues are in the market to sign a striker and they have been linked with a number of attackers in the last few months.
Chelsea have spent more than £1 billion since Todd Boehly took over in the summer of 2022, but the team is still having trouble on the pitch.
As of the now, Chelsea are 14 points outside of the Champions League qualifying places in the Premier League standings, sitting in 10th place.
While fellow summer addition Christopher Nkunku has only made seven appearances due to injury, Nicolas Jackson has mostly failed to impress since joining from Villarreal last June, despite recording seven goals and three assists in the league this season.
Chelsea’s young talent Armando Broja, who scored just one league goal in the first half of this season before being loaned to local rivals Fulham for the remainder of the campaign, similarly struggled to establish himself at the position.
Brentford striker Ivan Toney and Napoli star Victor Osimhen have both been paired with the Premier League club.
The German newspaper SportBILD has reported that Chelsea are keeping an eye on Osimhen’s international teammate Boniface, who has emerged as one of the season’s biggest stars in Germany.
With 21 games across all competitions this season, Boniface has tallied 14 goals and 9 assists. Leverkusen, led by Xabi Alonso, has opened up a comfortable eight-point lead over Bayern Munich, the winners of the previous 11 Bundesliga titles dating back to 2013.
According to the report, Chelsea are reportedly “tempting” Boniface into a summer transfer, but they will probably run into a lot of roadblocks while trying to recruit the 23-year-old.
Given the value of Boniface to their team, Leverkusen have not indicated that they would accept bids for him.
The 23-year-old striker is valued at €40 million by the German team. Furthermore, Leverkusen will be in a stronger position to negotiate because Boniface’s contract expires in 2028.
