Chelsea’s new captain in the absence of Reece James, Enzo Fernandez is not immune to criticism. Disappointing on Sunday against Manchester City (2-0 defeat), the Argentinian midfielder has been singled out for several weeks and the title celebrated in the Copa América with Argentina where he had launched racist chants. Not necessarily in good graces at the moment, he can however count on the support of his coach Enzo Maresca.

After the defeat against Manchester City, the Italian coach came to his rescue: “He’s not the only captain, but he is today. I see his teammates, they love him as a player and as a man. We all make mistakes sometimes. The important thing is to acknowledge them and that’s over. I made mistakes in the past and I acknowledged them. You’re not going to be punished for the rest of your life.»
