Chelsea are reportedly eyeing up a move for Crysencio Summerville ahead of a possible Leeds United fire sale in the summer transfer window.
It is thought that second-tier side Leeds will have to raise close to £100m in player sales if they fail to clinch promotion to the Premier League this term.
Leeds finished the regular Championship season on 90 points – the highest-ever points tally by a team not to get automatically promoted from the division.
Daniel Farke’s side finished third to set up a Championship play-off semi-final against Norwich, with their first-leg encounter in Norfolk ending in a 0-0 draw.
The two clubs lock horns at Elland Road tonight (Thursday, May 16) for their second-leg meeting with Leeds needing to produce a victory to reach Wembley.
Should Leeds beat Norwich, they’d face either Southampton or West Brom in the Championship play-off final on May 26, with a Premier League spot up for grabs.
If Leeds fail in their quest to return to the top-flight at the first time of asking, there will be a fire sale at the club due to concerns over financial rules.
That’s according to the Daily Mail who report that Summerville would be the most likely departure.
Chelsea are watching Summerville ahead of a possible move but they face competition from Liverpool, Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
Summerville was named the Championship Player of the Season last month and would command a fee in excess of £30m.
The 22-year-old Dutch winger has conjured up 19 goals and nine assists across 43 Championship games this season.
‘I’m on another level than before,’ Summerville said after being crowned Championship Player of the Season.
‘When we went down, I thought I was going to stay at Leeds and help the team to get back to where they belong and I’m happy I can help the team with my assists and goals. The Championship is very difficult and it’s very tough but I am enjoying it because I like games.’
