Journalist Simon Phillips reports that Chelsea want to get winger Jarrod Bowen from West Ham United this summer in order to strengthen their attack.
The reliable journalist claims on his Substack that the west London club want to move at least two of their current players to make room for four other wingers.
Hammers star Bowen is one of those choices, but given that the England international signed a new contract that runs until 2030 before this season, a deal is now viewed as “unlikely.”
Despite their exorbitant price tags, Chelsea have not shied away from signing Premier League stars in previous transfer windows.
In addition to signing Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion, they also purchased Robert Sanchez and Moises Caicedo from the same team last summer.
West Ham star has been in fine form
With 15 goals in 31 Premier League games this season, Bowen has been a vital member of the West Ham team.
Jarrod Bowen to Chelsea?
The Hammers were wise to safeguard themselves early in the season by locking him down to a new, long-term contract.
Bowen can play on the right and is a goal threat. Cole Palmer may shift to the No. 10 spot as a result of his arrival, where he will probably see more of the ball.
Chelsea would need to pay a premium for Bowen
Chelsea would find many uses for Bowen, but the Blues would likely need to make a very generous offer to sign the West Ham player.
The Premier League club might have to make him the most expensive West Ham player in order to sign him, that is how difficult it looks.
Bowen has been playing consistently well for a number of seasons now and Liverpool have been his admirers in the past.
The England international is likely to be a part of the Euro 2024 setup of the Three Lions under Gareth Southgate this summer.
