Chelsea have an enquiried with Manchester United over a potential transfer deal to sign Alejandro Garnacho, according to reports.

United are not actively looking to sell Garnacho but the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules could force the club to listen to offers for some of their academy talents.

Kobbie Mainoo, who is yet to sign a new long-term deal with the club, has already attracted interest from both Chelsea and Bayern Munich despite his vital role in Ruben Amorim’s side.

And the Blues have now also began sounding out a potential deal for Garnacho as they look to sign another wide forward, according to The Athletic.

Garnacho started United’s last game against Southampton, in part due to Diogo Dalot’s suspension, but the Argentine has not been a regular for the Red Devils since Amorim’s arrival.

And while the Portuguese boss said Garnacho has areas he must improve, he has also repeatedly insisted that the 20-year-old has a future at Old Trafford.

‘That is clear [that Garnacho has a future at United]. He has talent. He’s finding the best way to play in this system,’ Amorim said before United’s win over Southampton.

‘He started the last game. I think he changed the way he sees himself.’

Despite those comments, several top clubs appear keen to test United’s revolve in the January transfer window.

Napoli, in particular, have identified Garnacho as their first-choice replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is set to join Paris Saint-Germain in a €70 million (£58.9m) deal.

United are holding out for a £70m fee for Garnacho and have already rejected a bid from Napoli of £40m.

Chelsea, meanwhile, appear to be at an earlier stage in their conversations with United over a possible deal for Garnacho.

The west London club signed winger Jadon Sancho from United in the summer on an initial loan with an obligation to buy but are still keen for more wide reinforcements.

Mykhailo Mudryk often provided depth on the left wing, but the Ukrainian winger has not been seen in action since failing a drugs test in December.

England youth international and Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens is another attracting interest from the Blues having scored seven goals in 17 league appearances so far this season.
