The Blues eked past Fulham on the weekend to make it three Premier League wins on the bounce but still have problems to solve at the top of the pitch.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat in their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Middlesbrough and have been unable to find a consistent source of goals for the entire season.
While Nicolas Jackson is competing at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, summer signing Christopher Nkunku continues to struggle with injury.
Although the Frenchman will soon return to first-team training, Chelsea are reportedly considering bolstering their attacking depth with a short-term loan.
And according to reports that man could be Aston Villa’s Duran.
The Colombian, who joined from Chicago Fire last season, has two league goals so far this season but has yet to start a game due to the form and consistency of Ollie Watkins.
The 20-year-old has also been the subject of interest from Serie A side AC Milan but is not likely to leave Villa unless Unai Emery’s side have a replacement lined up.
Chelsea have also been considering moves for Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney, although both would require a substantial fee to get the deal done in January.
Brentford have set their price tag at around £100m for the 27-year-old, while Chelsea would be required to fork out at least £112m to activate Osimhen’s release contract in his new Napoli contract.
When asked about the club’s plans to bring in a striker in January, Pochettino previously said: ‘We are assessing the squad like always.
‘But I am happy because we have different options to play in the striker positions and then we need our second line offensive players to step up and score and help the team score and win games.’
