Arsenal will face still competition from Chelsea for the signing of highly-rated winger Nico Williams, according to reports.
Williams has emerged as a top target for the Gunners who are looking to add cover and competition for Bukayo Saka.
It is said that Mikel Arteta hopes to make a move for the Athletic Bilbao star in the summer, and is even willing to bin off two of his current attacking players in order to make it happen.
There is plenty of interest in the 21-year-old, with Real Madrid, Liverpool and Aston Villa all keeping tabs on him.
Chelsea can now be added to that list, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that Williams has been on their shortlist since last summer and that the Blues are still sending scouts to watch him.
‘Arsenal have also sent their scouts to follow Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao multiple times, and it’s the same for Chelsea as they included him in the list last summer,’ the transfer expert told CaughtOffside.
‘The race is completely open, and nothing is advanced with either club so far.
‘He’d be great in the Premier League in my opinion – a physical and technical player; very good one.’
It is not known how much Williams could cost, but having only very recently signed a new contract until 2027, his value will be high.
The Spain international has scored five and made 10 assists across 24 games in all competitions so far this season.
Chelsea have already splashed a lot of cash on new wingers over the past two seasons, like Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke, so if they were to make a move one of those would surely be sold first.
