The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling his promises of increasing the number of holidays dedicated to the celebration of Eidul Fitri in the country and the reduction in Hajj fares.

This gesture according to him reflected the true concerns the President had for the Islamic faith.

A statement issued from his office said “I wish to thank and commend His Excellency the President, John Dramani Mahama, on fulfilling the promise he made to us on additional holiday for Eidul Fitri and the reduction in Hajj fares. We are grateful and we say “jazaaka llahu khairan”.”

He said as Muslims prepare towards the celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr, unity and peace must be their watch word and work towards its attainment across the world.

The Chief Imam further stated that Islamic unity was a duty which the Almighty Allāh had commanded all Muslims to work to achieve it.

Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) has exemplified it in words and deeds just as the Sunnah taught us that the Prophet SAW said “All the Muslims’ blood is of equal value, and all the Muslims are like one hand against others, and the lowest of rank among them moves around freely under their protection.”

He noted that this unity was achieved by the Prophet SAW in practical life by forging brother-hood between the al-Muhājirūn (immigrants from Makkah) and al-Anṣār (sup- porters, inhabitants of Madinah).

“As we strive to raise high the flag of Islam we must understand that in unity lies our strength. To achieve success in our lives and for greater rewards in the hereafter we must show love and support to one another,” he said.

In addition, he emphasised that “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favour of Allah upon you – when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favour, brothers.” 3:103.

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) said “None of you will have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” Bukhari.

“Verily, the believers are like a structure, each part strengthening the other,” and the Prophet clasped his fingers together. Bukhari.

“The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.” Bukhari.

The Chief Imam also prayed for lasting peace in bawku and all conflicts zones in Ghana and around the World.
