Chief Minister Urges Officials to Expedite Housing Approvals Under PMAY

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has raised concerns about Telangana falling behind in getting housing approvals under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana (PMAY). He noted that other states have successfully secured a large number of houses from the central government, while Telangana is lagging. The Chief Minister urged officials to work hard to secure more housing approvals this year and to also follow up on pending dues from the Centre under the PMAY.

The officials were instructed to provide all the necessary information to the Centre quickly and to consistently update data related to the Indiramma housing scheme. To address potential manpower shortages when the construction of houses begins on a large scale, the CM suggested hiring engineers on an outsourcing basis.

As part of speeding up the construction of Indiramma houses, the Chief Minister asked the officials to set up Indiramma Committees before the upcoming Dussehra festival. These committees are to be formed at the village, mandal, constituency, and district levels, and should be finalized within one or two days.

During a review meeting held at the State Secretariat, Revanth Reddy also suggested auctioning unsold apartments and houses under the Rajiv Swagruha scheme. He pointed out that it is not wise to let these houses remain unsold for years and called for immediate steps to prepare for the auctions.

Lastly, the Chief Minister asked about the delays in handing over double-bedroom houses to beneficiaries, despite the fact that approvals for many of these houses have already been given. He directed officials to ensure that basic facilities are provided in the constructed housing blocks that are currently sitting unused in Hyderabad and to hand them over to beneficiaries as soon as possible.
