“Chimpanzee”, new scandal for Vinicius

Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior was once again the target of racist abuse from Atletico Madrid fans ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League match against Inter.

This is the fourth time Atlético fans have been filmed insulting Vinicius. In February 2023, four fans were jailed for an incident in which a model wearing Vinicius’ jersey was suspended from a bridge.

Los Blancos weren’t in action tonight, but that didn’t stop fans outside the Metropolitano from chanting ‘Ale, ale, ale, Vinicius chimpanzee’ before the match.

New racial attack

Last season in La Liga was marked by racial attacks against Vinicius, a phenomenon which has lessened this season, but which has not yet been completely eradicated, and which will once again damage the image of the league and the country.

La Liga has been more proactive in the fight against racism and raising awareness of this phenomenon, but the league and the authorities are still far from having done what is necessary.
