EXCLUSIVE: Chloë Grace Moretz (The Peripheral), Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), and Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) have signed on to star in Dutch & Razzlekhan, a heist film based on a true story that will go into production this summer under the direction of BAFTA nominee Jon S. Baird (Tetris).
Logan Miller and Noah Miller (G20, White Boy Rick) penned the script, with Andrew Lazar’s Mad Chance (Nyad, George & Tammy) aboard to produce. CAA Media Finance will arrange financing for the film and represent its worldwide distribution rights.
Based on the 2022 Business Insider article “The $4.5 Billion Question” by Rob Price and Becky Peterson, Dutch & Razzlekhan is the explosive and unbelievably true story of the most expensive heist in history, with Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan (Moretz) and Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein (Pullman) — lovers, hipsters, and aspiring rapper-entrepreneurs — at its center. After stealing over $4 billion worth of cryptocurrency, the millennial couple was caught by the Department of Justice and charged with conspiracy to launder the stolen bitcoin in February 2022. The pair were convicted the following year.
Details as to the role DeBose is playing haven’t been disclosed.
As with the story of Sam Bankman-Fried, the entrepreneur behind the now-bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX, who was convicted of fraud, conspiracy and money laundering in November 2023, the tale of Dutch & Razzlekhan is one that has drawn plenty of interest in Hollywood, leading to the development of a number of starry projects. Lily Collins signed on to portray the latter in Hulu limited series Razzlekhan: The Infamous Crocodile of Wall Street, with Amazon MGM announcing development on its film Razzlekhan, to be directed by Hannah Marks and produced by Lili Reinhart, earlier this year.
Most recently, Moretz has been seen leading Amazon’s sci-fi series The Peripheral, also taking on the lead voice role in Netflix’s Nimona, which is currently up for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Upcoming projects for the actress include the UFC drama Strawweight, in which she’ll star opposite Lupita Nyong’o.
Pullman stars on Amazon’s Outer Range and was also recently seen starring opposite Brie Larson in Apple’s Golden Globe-nominated limited series Lessons in Chemistry, as well as William Friedkin’s The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial and Top Gun: Maverick.
DeBose broke out with her Oscar-winning turn as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and has also been seen in titles like The Prom, Schmigadoon!, and Westworld. She lent her voice to Disney’s Wish and starred most recently in Matthew Vaughn’s spy pic Argylle. Up next, she’ll be seen starring opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Sony/Marvel’s Kraven the Hunter.
Most recently tapped to direct eOne’s Everything’s Going to Be Great starring Bryan Cranston, Allison Janney and more, Baird prior to that helmed the Taron Egerton starrer Tetris for Apple TV+ and Laurel and Hardy pic Stan & Ollie, along with episodes of shows like I’m Dying Up Here and Vinyl.
Moretz is represented by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; Pullman by CAA and Anonymous Content; DeBose by CAA, AC Management, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; and Baird by CAA, Independent Talent Group, and Range Media Partners. The Millers are with Canopy Media Partners and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
