Chris Jericho had an unlikely “first” at AEW WrestleDream this weekend.
One of the key matches at AEW WrestleDream was the ROH World Title match between Mark Briscoe and Chris Jericho. After a tough fight, Briscoe managed to retain his title.
Following the match, Jericho took to Instagram to share a photo of him paying tribute to the late Jay Briscoe by hitting the Jay Driller on the champion. The move was used to draw a negative reaction from the crowd. However, it also held an important meaning to Jericho.
In the post, Jericho also mentioned that this was the first time he had ever hit a sitting piledriver in his entire career. Jericho says he’s never been good at performing leg drops, or any move with a similar landing.
Chris Jericho pulled out all the stops at WrestleDream
“Last night I hit the #JayDriller on @m.briscoesr at #aewwrestledream. Even though it didn’t get the results I had hoped for, I just wanna point out that this is the FIRST sitting piledriver I’ve ever done in my 34 years in this business!! @stormwrestlingacademy can attest to the fact that I was HORRIBLE at doing leg drops back in 1990 when we trained at the #hartdungeon, so I’ve NEVER done one …or any other move than ends with me landing on my ass. Last night all that changed when I realized I had to pull out all the stops to try to become the @ringofhonor world champion. My point is, even after 34 years on the job, I’m still pushing my boundaries and doing new things…and #TheLearningTree says, YOU SHOULD TOO!!! And Briscoe…this s*** ain’t over yet, son. THANKS GUYS! ?? @aew,” Chris Jericho wrote.
