Chris Masters has teased appearing in the Royal Rumble match this year.

The Masterpiece hasn’t been seen in the WWE since 2011, having two separate runs in the company in the 2000s. He teased appearing in last year’s event and holds out hope for one more WWE appearance.

Chris Masters recently spoke with Rewind Recap Live and jokingly revealed he is entering the WWE Royal Rumble this year. He then cleared it up, saying that seeing his friends making appearances over the past few years, like Carlito and MVP, has inspired him to return to WWE.

“Yeah, they contacted me yesterday. I’m going to be the special guest entry in this world,” Chris Masters joked. “Wouldn’t that be amazing? Wouldn’t it be amazing if I dropped it right here? That’d be funny if everybody just brushed it off like it was nothing, and then it ended up being true.”

“I always—you know, I didn’t think about it for a long time. And then, about three or four years ago, I started seeing a lot of my friends come back, and it was just kind of like, ‘Man.’ I started to really yearn for it and tried to put feelers out there. But, you know, it hasn’t come to be.”

Chris Masters Thinks He’ll Get A Good Reaction From The 20s Crowd

Chris Masters thinks people in their 20s would cheer for him, as he debuted likely during their time watching the show as a child.

“In my mind, I think about it, like, yeah, I might get a pop, or it might be kind of a cool return. But I think, in the powers that be’s minds—like Hunter, for instance—in his mind, he would think, ‘They’ve forgotten about the Masterpiece. It’s been too long. Nobody will care,’” Masters said.

Masters, who now goes by Chris Adonis and recently had a run with the NWA, said that his reaction might depend on the crowd. He also knows that some of the fans now in their 20s might enjoy it since he broke in around the time they became big WWE fans.

“I think I could get a pop because there’s a good amount of guys in their 20s, late 20s, or early 30s who’ve been watching this since they were kids. Their peak fandom was around that time. I say that because I’ve got more experience now, and I’ve wrestled a lot of guys on the indie scene who are in their early 20s.

“They’re very nervous about wrestling me. And then, when we talk, I realize—oh, their first time seeing me, they were, like, six years old or whatever. You know what I mean? They were really young. So, anyways, just to say—hopefully, there would be enough fans of that same kind of nature who would be like, ‘Oh my God, are you kidding me?'” added Chris Masters.
