Chris Pratt Jokingly Addresses Absence From ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Cast Announcement: “They Must Have Cut Away From It”

Chris Pratt is addressing his absence from last week’s Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement.

Marvel livestreamed the actors confirmed for the next Avengers installment featuring chairs with their names, and the Guardians of the Galaxy star and his crew were notably absent.

“I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off,” Pratt told Collider after being asked about his chair. “They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there.”

Marvel hinted that it would reveal more names to star in the film, but it is unclear if Pratt would be included in the next set of actors.

Actors confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday included X-Men stars like Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast).

Other actors named were Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Florence Pugh (Yelena).

Pratt originated the role of Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. He reprised his role in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and appeared in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.

The Parks & Recreation alum played Star-Lord in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Pratt last played the role in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which hinted in the end that the “Legendary Star-Lord Will Return,” which the actor recently said “will make good on that promise.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was the last time you saw Star-Lord, and there was a promise that Star-Lord would return,” Pratt said on Jimmy Kimmel Live in February 2025. “All I can say is we will make good on that promise. I feel like there’s a Marvel sniper somewhere. I will say no more.”

Marvel is not only working on Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, but also has planned Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled to release in May 2027.
