Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand says he ‘really’ hopes Christian Eriksen’s situation at Manchester United changes because he’s ‘not in the best situation’.
The midfielder has found himself behind Kobbie Mainoo for most of the campaign and has struggled to have the impact he had during his debut campaign at Old Trafford.
Eriksen impressed following his free transfer move to United in 2023 and was a starter until injury against Reading in the FA Cup in January, which left him sidelined for three months.
The 32-year-old has made just nine Premier League starts this term and rarely plays 90 minutes, with Eriksen admitting he’s spoken to Erik ten Hag about his playing time.
That’s a concern for Hjulmand, who needs his captain firing on all cylinders ahead of the European Championships in Germany.
And the Denmark boss says the situation needs to change.
‘I very much hope that it changes,’ said Hjulmand.
‘A player as skilled as Christian has to play, and of course we very much hope that things change at United. But not having played anymore is not the best situation.
‘It is not the best situation as it is right now. I really, really hope that changes.
‘I’m pretty sure we’ll see a fit Christian. I know he is. But it is clear that if it continues, then for Christian it can be like it is with everyone else. There may be a concern about the level you can perform if you don’t get more playing time than what it is at the moment.
