Christian Eriksen admits he’s unhappy with his bit-part role at Manchester United and will assess his future after Denmark’s campaign at Euro 2024.
The 32-year-old, who joined United on a free transfer in July 2022, started just 12 Premier League matches this season and has completed just one game for Erik ten Hag’s side since the start of January.
Eriksen was also left on the bench for United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final and the midfielder concedes that being a substitute is ‘never fun’.
‘For me, the season has been a little different to other seasons,’ Eriksen told TV2.
‘It has been a slightly different role. It’s new to me, but it’s also new to the outside world. It is clear, in relation to how people talk.’
Asked if he finds it easier to sit on the bench towards the end of his career, Eriksen replied: ‘No, it’s the same.
‘I was also a bit lucky that I didn’t sit on the bench so much when I was younger. But I did it once in a while. It’s never fun. That’s for sure.
‘Personally, you always want to be the one who is chosen first in the team. Sometimes the coach looks the other way.

‘But then I play for United, so there is just a battle for places, because there are a lot of good players.’
Eriksen has just a year left on his deal with United and when asked about his future, the midfielder said: ‘For me, there is full focus on the European Championship and then we have to see where we stand.’
Meanwhile, Eriksen scored a superb goal to secure a 2-1 win for Denmark in a friendly against Sweden on Wednesday evening.
Denmark will be in Group C alongside England, Slovenia and Serbia for Euro 2024 this summer and United striker Rasmus Hojlund is happy to see Eriksen receive more playing time ahead of the tournament.
‘I would describe him as a world-class player,’ Hojlund said of Eriksen after Denmark’s win over Sweden.
‘He will be really important for the team for the European Championship.
‘It was great to see him score at the end. It was really good to see him play again and get 90 minutes. He has needed to play a lot, because he is a player with an insane amount of quality.’
