EXCLUSIVE: Christine Ko (Dave) and Christian Convery (Cocaine Bear) are set to star alongside Owen Wilson and Matt Rife in Rolling Loud, an R-rated father-son comedy from Live Nation Productions and American High that began production at the hip-hop festival of the same name in December and will begin studio production in Atlanta this week.
Written and directed by Jeremy Garelick (Murder Mystery 2), Rolling Loud is inspired by the true story of an overprotective father (Wilson) who, in an effort to be a cool and favorable Dad, makes a bold parenting decision when he sneaks his 13-year-old son (Convery) into Rolling Loud, the world’s largest hip-hop music festival, setting off a chaotic adventure with his reckless co-worker (Rife) and an eccentric festival volunteer (Ko) as they navigate wild crowds, security, and their own family dynamics.
Garelick and Will Phelps are producing for American High, along with Stella Bulochnikov for Pat Solitano Productions and Jolene. Executive producers include Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Productions, Pasquale Rotella of Insomniac, Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif of Rolling Loud, Rife and Christina Shams. Mary Vernieu and Findley Davidson handled casting, and UTA Independent Film Group is repping worldwide rights to the film, on which we were first to report. It’s slated for release next year.
Ko is best known for starring alongside Dave Burd (aka rapper Lil Dicky) on Dave, the record-breaking comedy from FX, which emerged as the most-watched comedy in the network’s history after its first season, surpassing the monster hit Atlanta. The show, co-created by Burd and Jeff Schaffer, premiered its third season in 2023 and is now on pause while Burd works on other projects. Prior to Dave, Ko recurred on Hulu’s most-watched comedy, Only Murders in the Building, as well as the fifth season of its award-winning dystopian drama The Handmaid’s Tale. Also recently lending her voice to the Emmy-winning animated series Blue Eye Samurai, she is represented by WME, Rise Management, and Hansen, Jacobson.
Best known for roles in the Netflix fantasy series Sweet Tooth and Universal’s hit horror comedy Cocaine Bear, Convery is repped by Innovative and Entertainment 360.
