Former French international Djibril Cisse believes there is one element that Didier Deschamps should have included in his latest list.
On Thursday, Didier Deschamps announced his list of 23 players selected for the first matches of the Nations League of the season. A list in which there were only two new players, namely Manu Koné and Michael Olise.
Should the French coach have renewed his squad a little more? Djibril Cissé, former French international, thinks so. The former AJ Auxerre striker thinks there is a striker that the boss of the Blues would have been well inspired to call up. “He could have gone further (with the new ones) with Mateta, who had a very good Olympics,”
he declared on the L’Equipe channel.
Cisse understands Deschamps
While speaking out in favour of the Crystal Palace player, Cisse admits that places are at a premium in the French attack. “It’s Kolo Muani who would have paid the price. It would have been hard to remove him. Afterwards, there is a World Cup to prepare for and continuity to have, while having a small dose of new people because there is a generation that is ending. But we can’t ask him to revolutionize everything.”
Asked about N’Golo Kanté, who has been retained in the squad again, Cissé said it was logical:
“The Nations League is a trophy and he knows that Kanté can hold out for a season.”
