Elder statesman and Niger Delta leader, Edwin Clark, has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Clark’s call follows Wike’s comments on states governed by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after the governors declared their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the party leader in Rivers State.
The PDP governors had pledged to collaborate with the National Working Committee (NWC) to ensure Fubara’s prominent role in the state’s politics.
In response, Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, threatened to “set fire” in the state of any governor who meddled in the internal politics of Rivers.
Clark, in an open letter to Egbetokun on Thursday titled “Arrest Wike Now With a Warrant of Arrest,” urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to allow his relationship with Wike compromise national interest.
Clark reminded the IGP of his duty to uphold the law impartially.
He condemned Wike’s threats as a danger to public peace and an act of incitement, which is a serious offence under Nigerian law. Clark stated, “No one is above the law, and it must be enforced. If you previously arrested Omoyele Sowore for similar or lesser threats, and are currently prosecuting those involved in the ‘End Bad Governance’ protests, why delay action in Wike’s case?”
