FC Barcelona shone on Sunday evening in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, inflicting a historic humiliation on Real Madrid (5-2) at Al-Jaddah. After this demonstration, Jules Koundé, pillar of the Barcelona defense, revealed the keys to this resounding victory against the eternal rival.
A lesson in calm and patience
Interviewed after the match, Jules Koundé highlighted the mental strength and tactical application of his team. “This title has a special flavor, because we come from a season without trophies. It’s always special, especially against a rival like Real Madrid,” he confided.
The French defender explained that Barça had learned from their past mistakes, especially when it came to reacting after conceding a goal: “We were calm and patient after conceding. In the past it made things difficult for us, but this time the team showed that it had matured.”

This maturity was evident when Real Madrid opened the scoring in the 5th minute thanks to Kylian Mbappé. Rather than panic, the Blaugrana maintained their intense pressing and quickly returned to the match, before putting on an offensive festival.
Asphyxiating pressing, key to victory according to Koundé
Koundé also underlined the importance of collective pressing, a central element of Barcelona’s game plan: “We had to put pressure on Real Madrid, because as soon as we give them space, things become complicated.” A perfectly executed strategy, which suffocated Real from the first period, to the point of inflicting four goals on them before half-time.
Despite the expulsion of their goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in the 55th minute, Barça remained united: “After the red card, we came together to say that losing this game was out of the question. These victories give us more confidence, we needed it and we deserve it.”
A victory bringing hope for Barça
For the former Bordeaux player, this success symbolizes much more than a simple trophy: it marks a turning point for a team which was seeking to regain its past glory. With this triumph, Barça sends a strong signal to its competitors and confirms that it is once again becoming an essential force in Spain.
