Claudio Castagnoli wants to prove he is the best in the ring every night.

The former WWE Superstar has been on a tear since debuting in AEW in 2022. Since debuting against Zack Sabre Jr at the first Forbidden Door, Claudio Castagnoli has been a key part of the Blackpool Combat Club, while also holding ROH World Title gold.

The former ROH Champion recently turned on Bryan Danielson, alongside Jon Moxley and PAC. They look set for a major heel run in the company. However, that does not change his goal of being the best wrestler he can be.

Claudio Castagnoli recently spoke with Rick Ucchino for The Takedown on Sports Illustrated, where he discussed the chances of him becoming the AEW World Champion.

He noted that not everybody can be the main character, and that at his age, being so single-minded can be a detriment. The Swiss star simply explained that he wants to be proud of every match, and be the best wrestler he can, and consistently.

“Everybody should aspire to be the World Heavyweight Champion.” Claudio Castagnoli said. “I think I may have realized as I’m getting older, that that single-minded focus can actually be a big detriment to me. Not everybody is the main character. Not everybody can be the hero of the story. So to me, it is how can I make the most impact?”

“John Cena said it once to me, ‘You’re only as good as your last match.’ And I very much believe that. That’s very much how I approach every single match. Every single match I wanna be proud of and I feel I owe that to the people who follow my career, and I owe that to every single person tuning in for the first time or for the 100th time. When I’m in the ring, they just know they’re getting the best consistently.”
