Internationally renowned Italian coach, Claudio Ranieri decided to call it quits at the age of seventy-two.

Former player turned coach, Claudio Ranieri has built up a serious track record throughout his travels. Whether in Italy, Spain, France and especially in England, the Transalpine left his mark on the clubs he passed through. But at seventy-two years old, the man who is currently in charge of the Cagliari team has decided to retire. He announced it on Wednesday.

It was through a video posted on the Serie A club’s social networks that Claudio Ranieri informed the public of his decision. Looking back on his first years as coach with Cagliari at the end of the 80s, the native of Rome then spoke of the rise of last season and the validation validated this year in Serie A “ It seems to me to be the right time (to stop), after the rise which we perhaps did not expect so quickly when I arrived in January (he actually returned to the bench Rossoblu December 23, 2022, editor’s note)and then this maintenance that happened. »

Rich career

The tactician then confirmed his choice. “ It’s decided. It’s the best thing to do to leave now. I had three years of contract (until June 2025, editor’s note), but now is the right time. With a heavy heart, because it is difficult and it is a painful decision, but I am convinced that it is the right decision. I prefer to leave like this and not next year when things can go wrong. »

In more than thirty-five years of career as a coach, Claudio Ranieri has notably been crowned Ligue 2 champion with AS Monaco (2013), Serie B champion and winner of the Italian Cup with Fiorentina, winner of the Spanish Cup with Valencia CF (1999) and perhaps his greatest achievement, with the Premier League title to everyone’s surprise, with Leicester City (2016).
