Taiwanese animated feature Clouded Leopard, to be written and directed by Chi Po-chou and produced by Mangowork Studio, was presented with the TAICCA X CNC Award at the close of Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF) on Friday.
The action adventure, presented in TCCF Pitching’s Project To Screen: Animation section, tells the story of pair of siblings working with a magical creature to rid the world of a polluting rain. The TAICCA X CNC Award, sponsored by French national film agency CNC and Taiwan Creative Content Agency, comes with a cash prize of US$30,000.
The top award in the Story To Screen section, the TAICCA Award for Best Story, went to Taiwanese fantasy horror comic Rest In Pieces, published by Balaena Islet Publishing. The award came with a cash prize of US$10,000 (TWD300,000).
This year’s TCCF Pitching section handed out a record $240,000 (NT$7.65M) in cash prizes and in-kind awards. In addition to Clouded Leopard, grand prize winners in the Project To Screen section included Calendar Studios’ Call Of Lobster, which won the $20,000 Chunghwa Telecom Award, and animation Chickie’s Small Café, which took the $10,000 NMEA Award. The jury also added a $10,000 Special Jury Award, presented to documentary The Alleyway, about Muslim immigrants in South Korea.
In the Project To Screen: Features section, Hsubox and Volos films’ Sunshower won both the Taichung Action Award and the QPM Award, presented by the Philippines’ QCinema Project Market. Don’t Worry About Vampire, presented by Silly Hunter, was also a multiple winner, picking up awards from Taipei International Film Festival and Korea’s BIFAN.
Multiple award winners in the Project To Screen: Series section included Singapore-Taiwan co-production Pontianaks In Taiwan, and The Top Percentile, a Taiwan-Malaysia collaboration, which both won three separate cash awards of US$10,000 (see full list of winners below).
Cash prize winners in the Project To Screen: Animation section included Chardo Animation’s Teewa and Reno Studios’ Something Great.
In addition to the Pitching section, the event hosted TCCF Market, with around 100 exhibitors, and the TCCF Forum section of panel discussions and presentations. The event took place November 5-8 at the Nangang Exhibition Center in the eastern suburbs of Taipei.
